Why Recycling is Important and how it ties back to your yoga practice.
Yoga is a lifestyle.
By definition lifestyle in a noun meaning “the way in which a person or a group lives.” If you are following yoga just as an exercise plan that is amazing! There are so many benefits that the poses will bring into your life. If you have been practicing yoga for a while and are not familiar with the Eight Limbs of yoga we highly suggest doing some research. Implementing these principals into your life is a way to practice yoga off the mat. When implementing the Eight Limbs alongside your yoga practice you may notice a growth towards greater balance in your life. Yoga becomes more than what is experienced on the mat and slowly turns into that yogic feeling of bliss throughout the entire day. It’s obviously not magic, it takes hard work, the same hard work that is applied on your mat, which brings us to Saucha.
Saucha
Saucha is one of the Eight Limbs of yoga. It means purity, cleanliness and clearness. It refers to purity of mind, speech and body. One of the best ways to practice Saucha onto others is to take care of our planet. There are many ways to help take care of our planet and some are as simple as bringing a recycling bin into your home.
Where to begin with recycling
One of the easiest ways to implement recycling in your home is to have two separate containers, one for recyclable items and one for things that cannot be recycled. When recycling in your home items will need to be cleaned and dried before placing them into the recycling bin.
According to the Guardian, more than one million plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute and this number will likely increase another 20% in 1-2 years. Keep in mind that it takes approximately 500 years for a plastic bottle to decompose. Rather than continuing to purchase water in plastic bottles, it is more environmentally responsible to purchase a stainless-steel reusable water bottle. Stainless-steel water bottles are the best for holding your water. Stainless-steel bottles do not leach bisphenol, a
(BPA), or other harmful chemicals into the water, like most plastic bottles do. BPA’s are endocrine disruptors that interfere with the production and action of your body’s natural hormones.
