We’ve all been there. You see the table full of sweets at your office Christmas party and you can’t just try one thing. You have to try one of each, right? Then later on it hits you – the guilt. Why did I have a full plate of those peppermint Hershey kiss cookies? I definitely didn’t need them all. Well, don’t fret! We’re here to help you enjoy the holiday season eating guilt-free!

Here are five tips to enjoy the holidays guilt-free:
  1. If you’re going to a holiday party where you aren’t eating a full meal, eat something before you get there. This will prevent you from getting there on an empty stomach, causing you to eat more than you wanted to due to hunger. Also, make sure you are sipping on water throughout the night to help you feel full faster.
  2. If you are bringing a dish, try to keep it light and with fewer calories. Not only will it help you feel better, but other guests might be feeling the same type of worry. Try substituting plain greek yogurt for sour cream in recipes, or bring veggies or fruit with a light dip.
  3. Don’t skip your workouts! Skipping your workouts can cause a lot of stress during the holiday season. Not only will you feel less guilty for eating more unhealthy foods if your keeping up with your routine, but working out helps you alleviate stress altogether. Keep in mind that you shouldn’t workout only because you feel guilty about eating poorly – doing so can cause an unhealthy relationship with food and fitness. Work out because it makes you feel good!
  4. If you are in the midst of trying to lose weight, try adjusting your goals to maintain your current weight during this time of year. This allows you to eat more of what you want, but keeps you on track rather than setting you back, making you feel worse if you aren’t hitting your goal.
  5. Adding light activity throughout the day can be a big help to feel guilt-free, especially if you are unable to workout as often as you like during the holidays. Try taking the stairs, bundling up and going for a walk after heavy meals, or play actively with your kids, nieces, nephews, grandchildren or pets. Bonus: doing housework can help you burn more calories, so if you’re having guests over and need to do some cleaning, whip out that vacuum and get to work!

We hope these tips help you have a stress and guilt-free holiday season! If you’re looking to get back on track after the holidays please reach out to Alexis or Felice for more tips, or to learn about the 10 Day Detox we’ll be doing in January!
